Briceland Forest Farm

Community Supported Agriculture Boxes

With spring just around the corner, we got a note from our friends at Briceland Forest Farm that they will be offering, for the very first-time, community-supported agriculture boxes. We are proud to say that the Gyppo Ale Mill will be one of the locations for pick up. Briceland Forest Farm will be offering full and half shares, with full shares costing $20 per week but with a value of $25.

“Food With A Farmer’s Face On It” was the slogan first used when CSA was first started in the US in 1985. CSA arose because back then as is true currently, people were concerned not only about food safety but also had the desire to be closer to their food source. If you haven’t checked out Briceland Forest Farm on social media, we encourage you to do so now. There is an incredible amount of thoughtfulness, love and hard work put into their farm and it is evident by the beautiful harvest they present.

Don’t wait to sign up for the CSA. Space is incredibly limited and is first come first serve.

Grey Whale Migration

March through April on California Lost Coast is one of the best places to watch the migration of pods of grey whales. Want to know why? It’s because of the Delgada Submarine Canyon located just off the shores of Shelter Cove. This canyon is over 600 feet deep within less than a half-mile off the coast then drops rapidly to a depth of 3,000 feet deep 14 miles off the coast. It is not only one of the largest geological features off the shores of North America but is also quite common for a whale to swim this trench and get incredibly close to shore. Who needs a boat to see whales when you can just make eye contact with these majestic creatures while picnicking at Black Sands Beach.

And did you know that the Gyppo Ale Beer garden is another amazing spot to do some whale watching? With ocean’s views to the north and the south, enjoy watching these 60,000-pound mammals lift over 90% of their body out of the water to create the world’s best splash. Give them a cheer over a beer and thank them for one of nature’s best shows!
