South To North Just Offshore

Grey Whale Migration

March through April on California Lost Coast is one of the best places to watch the migration of pods of grey whales. Want to know why? It’s because of the Delgada Submarine Canyon located just off the shores of Shelter Cove. This canyon is over 600 feet deep within less than a half-mile off the coast then drops rapidly to a depth of 3,000 feet deep 14 miles off the coast. It is not only one of the largest geological features off the shores of North America but is also quite common for a whale to swim this trench and get incredibly close to shore. Who needs a boat to see whales when you can just make eye contact with these majestic creatures while picnicking at Black Sands Beach.

And did you know that the Gyppo Ale Beer garden is another amazing spot to do some whale watching? With ocean’s views to the north and the south, enjoy watching these 60,000-pound mammals lift over 90% of their body out of the water to create the world’s best splash. Give them a cheer over a beer and thank them for one of nature’s best shows!

Shuck, Slurp & Sip is a day of tasting here at the Gyppo Ale Mill. Everyone loves Kyle from North Bay Shellfish! He’ll have bacon-themed barbequed and raw oysters plus appetizers by Chef Bob. Chef will have an array of pork used in different ways that will go perfectly with the tasting. Whose beverages will I be tasting you ask? We’re pleased to share that we’ve got Six Rivers Brewery, Avidity, Whitethorn Winery and of course the Gyppo Ale Mill, joining us to taste what we all have to offer.

Your ticket to this event includes 2 appetizers but additional appetizer tickets can be purchased. Don’t forget to save when you buy the whole package. If patrons choose not to participate in the Shuck, Slurp & Sip portion of Saturday night, they may still join us at Gyppo for a la carte oysters, regular Gyppo fare and at 7pm, live music featuring Second Son and the Rain Dogs.
