A Writ of Mandate was ordered by the Humboldt County Superior Court to the Redway Community Service District on Friday July 28th.  The court is ordering the RCSD to follow the law by correcting it's prior actions or ceasing illegal act.  Long story short, the court is ordering the RCSD to approve or deny our water application that has been in since January of this year.  We are writing this post to call attention to this matter and ask once again for your support in the form of attending the RCSD meeting where this decision will be made or send an email. The Gyppo Ale Mill has been working since 2013 to bring hand crafted beer to Southern Humboldt but has yet to get past approval of water and wastewater from the Redway Community Service District, although they have 155,000 gallons of excess water a day!  Come take a look at the list of hoops we have jumped through and then roll around some plan of action ideas we have for Southern Humboldt to make forward progress.  If you have other ideas, we are all ears!

SUCCESSFUL CHILDREN'S HOUSE

In following in the foot steps of thousands of breweries operating today, the Gyppo Ale Mill is proud to have completed our first charity event, Ales 4 Nails.  The event was a beer pairing dinner to raise money for Beginnings’ Children House Expansion Project Fund. The pre-school, located in Briceland, has had over 30 precious years of love and is ready for a little more space to breath.

In an intimate setting, fifty guests partook in five food and beer pairings. Chef Harley Charron, either mimicked the flavors of the food, or contrasted the beer and food flavors to create for a wonderful gastronomic experience. Some of the guest favorite combinations where the Chapman Ranch Red Wattle pork belly with Napa slaw paired with Arcata’s own Redwood Curtain Imperial Golden Ale and the decadent Crab Bisque paired with The Ale Apothecary’s barrel aged sour, Sahalie. The menu was as follows:

First Course
Beer Braised Chapman Ranch Red Wattle Pork Belly with Napa Slaw
Paired with Redwood Curtain Brewing Co.,
Imperial Golden Ale

Second Course

Our fantastic host for the evening, Bob Froelich, led our group of guest through history of beer as well as short demonstration on the technique of tasting beer.  Guest were provided with samples of hops and two different types of barley, in order to smell and taste beer from it's quaint beginnings.  Gyppo tasting books were for sale and were a convenient and easy way to record the night’s libation experience.

A special thanks goes out to Cyrus Allen.  In his usual generous manner, Allen out bid event attendees to give Children’s House an additional $500 dollar donation.  The item up for grabs was a four-foot by four-foot hand chalk drawn description of the brewery process.  Allen, promptly turn around and gave it to the most recently added member of his family, Kyle Terrel, his new brother-in-law.

When it was all said and done, over $4,200 dollars will be handed over to kick-start the Children’s House Expansion Project! Gyppo and Children’s House would like to thank each and every guest and please see the letter of appreciation for all the talented and energetic individuals that volunteered their time to insure the success of this event.
